Just a few more days left of 2022. I'm ready for a new year, 2022 wasn't one of my better years on several fronts. I'm hopeful that 2023 will be happier and more productive than this year has been. Maybe this year more than past years, it's important to look back at what did go well. Cheryl at Meadow Mist Designs is encouraging us to look at the Best of 2022.

With all the craziness going on the last few weeks I didn't get photos of my first finish till last Monday. Our house is on the dark side, so you need both a sunny day and a free afternoon to get decent inside photos. Cabins and Fans, renamed Fluorescence by the Scientist in Training, was finished on February 24, 2022.
Fluorescence (AKA Cabins and Fans), self designed Started Jan 6, 2017: Finished Feb 24, 2022 |
I'm a few days late on posting the progress on my PHD in 2022, so I won't be able to link up with Quilting Gail this month. But I still want to celebrate all the progress in February, especially since the last weekend was so chaotic and stressful. I really need to celebrate something!
So here's my report for February.
No new starts, that's worth celebrating. My Guy seems to have problems avoiding squirrels, so far I've done well at avoiding the quilty ones. Even better, the report shows the first finish for 2022!

February has apparently become the whiplash month for weather. The high yesterday was in the 70's, today we won't hit 40 F. Tomorrow we have a winter weather advisory the runs into Thursday. I'm ready for spring already!
- Potions: Assemble rows ✔
- Cabins and Fans: Finish stitching down binding - progress
- Macaron Mystery: Work on January and February ...
Valentine's Day was pretty low key. We treated ourselves to a fancy take out dinner. It was really good. Unfortunately the glass of wine I had with dinner made it hard to do much in the sewing room, I'm such a light weight on that front. Consequently I was in bed pretty early last night. It's a good thing that the last item on last week's to do list was checked off over the weekend.
- Potions: Finish all the flask blocks ✔
- Cabins and Fans: Attach binding ...
We are already a week into February. With it being such a short month, we'll be at the end of it before we know it. January always seems to drag, but February just flies. It's Tuesday, so it's time to draw up a new To Do List and link up with Linda of Texas Quilt Gal for this week's To Do Tuesday. Before getting to this week's list, I should look at the progress on last week's list.
To Do List for Week of 2/1/2022
- Potions: Make 7 flask blocks ✔
- Cabins and ...
The second round of snow didn't amount to much, but 6" of snow is a lot more than we normally get. We've been told to work from home for another day. So my commute will be from my recliner to my home office today, no walk across the parking lot in the cold.
Welcome to February! January always seems to be such a long month. Maybe because it's typically so much calmer than December? It's definitely still winter, the forecast says ice and snow starting for us tonight. Thankfully we are farther north and in a valley, so we are likely to get mostly snow. Ice storms are the worst.
This is the last To Do Tuesday for January. Already? I'm close to finishing up my One Monthly Goal for the month, so that should get done. I won't have any finishes this month, but there has definitely been good progress as last week's To Do List shows.
To Do List for 1/18/2022
- Potions: Make 5 beaker blocks ✔
- Rhododendron Mystery: Work on A and B blocks ✔
- Macaron Mystery: Continue to work on the January Clue ✔
- Unity: Continue making flying geese as leader and enders ✔
Year three of Stitching Gail's 2021 PHD program went pretty much like the first two. I didn't manage 12 finishes, I didn't finish what I started, but at least my UFO count stayed the same.
There were three finishes this year, I only started 3 of 4 planned starts, and I made progress on 5 other projects. So it wasn't a horrible year.
So though it's not PHD worthy, I'm happy with the progress in 2021.
Cabins and Fans finally made it to the Post Office and Trudy is working her quilting magic on ...
read moreMy last To Do Tuesday post was on November 30th. December was just a desert in terms of having time to stitch. I'm hoping to make up for that a bit this week since I'm on vacation till the new year. Here's the status of that last To Do List.
- Cabins and Fans: Ship out for quilting - no progress
- Scrappy Butterflies: Make alternate 9 patch blocks ✔
- Macaron Mystery: Start clue 6 ✔
- Rhododendron Mystery: Finish clue 1, start clue 2 ✔
- Unity: Continue making flying geese for step 8 ✔
I actually spent some time in my sewing room in November, so I made some good progress on my PHD in 2021.
There weren't any new finishes, but I'm close to one. The Bonnie Hunter 2021 mystery kicked off in November, so that's added to the list. Both mysteries on my list won't finish till 2022, so they won't count towards my PHD in 2021.
I'm not going to get anywhere close to 12 finishes this year. I had hoped for at least 8, but work had other ideas. I readjusted my attitude in ...

read moreLast week was pretty much a bust for anything sewing room related. This week didn't get off to the best start. We were saying good bye to family and on the road for a good part of Monday. Odds and ends kept me out of the sewing room till late evening yesterday. As you can probably guess, I didn't make a lot of progress on last week's To Do List.
To Do List for 11/16/2021
- Cabins and Fans: Finish quilt prep - progress
- Macaron Mystery: Make more flying geese - no progress

Last week wasn't great on the stitching front, this week probably won't be much better. To add insult to injury, my home computer is acting up. I updated the firmware last night, fingers crossed that fixed the worst of the problems. Even with the distractions, there was still some progress on the To Do List for last week.
- Cabins and Fans: Prep quilt top for quilting, progress
- Macaron Mystery: Make flying geese for steps 4 and 5 ✔
- Unity: Make flying geese for step 8 ✔
Moving back to standard time is always a bit of a downer. It's now light when we leave for work, but it's full dark by the time we head home. It always takes me a few weeks to wrap my mind and my sleep schedule around the change.
- Cabins and Fans: Prep backing for quilting ✔
- Macaron Mystery: Make flying geese for step 4 ✔
- Unity: Make flying ...
It's the 7th day of the month, which is the last day to post a Novemer One Monthly Goal and link up over at Elm Street Quilts.
October wasn't a great month for finding my way to the sewing room. This year has been challenging on a number of fronts and that's not going to change anytime soon. Rather than be disappointed, I'm going to celebrate the progress on projects no matter how little it may be, because there's no point in beating myself up for what's beyond my control. Any progress on my PHD in 2021 will make working towards a PHD in 2022 that much easier.
There aren't any updates to my PHD report this month.
No finishes, but ...
read moreIt's been a busy two weeks, unfortunately the sewing room has been mostly empty during that time. So there was no point in posting last week as I'd made no progress on the To Do List from 10/19. It wasn't till this last weekend that there was any progress on that To Do List.
- Cabins and Fans: Decide dimensions and layout of backing ✔
- Macaron Mystery: Make HSTs for step 3 ✔
- Unity: Make flying geese for step 8 ✔
Hard to believe that October ends in just a few hours. I just managed to squeeze in the completion of my October One Monthly Goal before the month ends.
